  • While Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports lists the Yankees as a potential buyer for Padres left-handed reliever Brad Hand, a source tells ESNY that Cashman is not expected to land him. This comes as no surprise, as many consider the Sonny Gray trade to be an “all-or-nothing” type of deal. Hand, who San Diego has a high price on, owns an even 2.00 ERA on the year with 70 strikeouts in 54 innings of work.

1:44 PM: Sleeper Team?

  • Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports speculates that the Brewers have emerged as a potential sleeper team in the Sonny Gray sweepstakes. Although many consider the Yankees to be favorites due to the package they can offer, Milwaukee has some firepower too in prospects like OF Lewis Brinson and OF Corey Ray.

12:50 PM: Chances Growing

  • Jon Heyman of FanRag sports went on WFAN and speculated that the chances of Gray ending up a Yankee by the deadline are 80 percent. He also reports some pieces have been agreed to in a potential swap.

11:48 AM: “Gaining More Traction”

10:34 PM: Down to the wire

  • A source with knowledge of the negotiations told ESNY that there is no rush for the A’s Billy Beane on the negotiations. If he doesn’t get the package he wants for Sonny Gray, he is expected to hold onto him and take negotiations into the winter.
