New York Knicks: Phil's Flunky Curses Out Reporters Over Melo Video

Clarence Gaines Jr. was Phil Jackson’s top advisor during his time as New York Knicks president. On Monday, he treated the media like it.

You’ve probably never heard the name Clarence Gaines Jr., and you’ve almost certainly never seen his face. That is not until he was captured on NBA TV laughing at one of Carmelo Anthony‘s workout videos.

Steve Mills, also pictured watching the video, declined to comment on the incident and Knicks PR announced he wouldn’t speak to the media at all during summer league. That’s normal behavior for an NBA team.

When Gaines was asked about the video, he responded angrily with an f-bomb to reporters.

Via Marc Berman of The New York Post:

“I’m not commenting on that — get the f–k out of here with that,” Gaines said when surrounded by reporters.

The Knicks did full-on damage control.

Berman reports that Gaines wasn’t laughing at Melo. He was laughing at Melo’s trainer in the video, Chris Brickley.

Per Berman, Gaines and Brickley are close friends. So, the entire Knicks front office contingent were mocking the accent of Melo’s trainer. That just sounds completely ridiculous.

By ridiculous I mean it sounds like something the Knicks would say.
