After eleven dedicated and hard-fought seasons with the New York Rangers, Dan Girardi will have his contract bought out by the Blueshirts.

Everyone knew this was a possibility. Most people knew this was likely. It’s now official. Dan Girardi has been bought out and will no longer play hockey for the New York Rangers.

Fans and analysts can say what they want about Girardi; the good, the bad, and everything in between. A common denominator is that Girardi was a warrior on the ice.

For eleven seasons Girardi poured his blood, sweat, and tears on the ice in New York. Not too shabby for an un-drafted NHL player. Hockey is a business and often the storybook ending does not come to fruition.

As great of a player Giaradi was on the ice, he was an even better guy off of it.

“I poured my heart and soul into this team for the past 11 seasons and I enjoyed every minute of it.” – Dan Girardi

The Girardi buyout will leave the Rangers with just over $12 million in cap space. More moves are likely to come so that number will change. The buyout breakdown can be seen below.

More importantly, let’s take this time to reflect back on Dan Girardi’s career and thank him for his hard work and dedication over the last eleven seasons. Thanks Dan. Good luck in all your future endeavors!
