The sixth-place New York Red Bulls seek three points in Saturday’s away match against 11th place Montreal.

  • New York Red Bulls (6-2-6, 20 pts)
  • Montreal Impact (3-4-4, 13 pts)

The New York Red Bulls look to grab three away points against a struggling Montreal Impact team. Rather than focus on retribution for defeat in last year’s playoff race, RBNY look forward to extending their win streak.

Luis Robles stated in Thursday’s post-training interview, “I think right now for us it’s about how we’re playing at the moment.I feel like the last two performances we’ve been quite good. Something that we want to continue to improve upon”

RBNY’s starting goalkeeper praised the team’s recent form. For Robles, rather than dwelling on the past, is looking to Saturday’s game as an important opportunity to gain three away points.

Robles continued, “we know that playing on the road in this league is especially tough.” RBNY are no strangers to away difficulties as the team was only able to grab a single away win out of six opportunities this season. Luis Robles, however, expressed optimism as RBNY are motivated to play, more so because of the Eastern Conference rivalry.

Jesse Marsch is certainly not forgetting RBNY’s elimination from the 2016 MLS Playoffs last season at the hand of Montreal. He stated, “We definitely have that on our minds,” referring to last year’s disappointing defeat. While he too shrugged off revengeful motivation going into Saturday’s game, he reconfirmed RBNY’s confidence going into Montreal.

Match facts:

Overall Wins Between the Two Teams:

  • RBNY 8 – Montreal 3
  • Two ties

Goals Scored

  • RBNY-27
  • Montreal-18

Montreal have the upper hand when playing home with three wins, one loss, and two ties against RBNY. The New York Red Bulls though have been more successful through the 2017 campaign. I believe that RBNY will come out on top Saturday night.

Game Prediction:

  • RBNY 2
  • Montreal 1
