New York Mets’ Wilmer Flores Wears David Wright’s Jersey In-Game (Photo)

New York Mets infielder Wilmer Flores was forced to wear David Wright‘s uniform on Thursday during an intra-squad contest.

What is this, amateur hour? Or, perhaps it’s a rec-league game. Or, maybe it’s Evan Roberts’ Twitter Baseball.

In any event, it’s real.

Check out the above tweet, courtesy of MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo. This photographic evidence of New York Mets infielder Wilmer Flores sporting David Wright’s No. 5 jersey.

Why did this happen today in the Mets intra-squad game against Triple-A Las Vegas? We don’t have the slightest clue. But it did, indeed, happen.

The big squad took the game by the final of 5-4.

Flores started at first base and batted cleanup for the Triple-A squad and killed it offensively at the plate. He finished 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a solo home run in the 3rd-inning … all with David Wright’s No. 5 proudly wrapped on his back.

Perhaps the Mets are now on to something here.
