The Jets will pay McCown six million dollars as a base salary, with an additional two million dollars in playtime incentives and five million in team-based incentives, according to Albert Breer.
McCown started in only three games for the Cleveland Browns last season. He threw for 1,100 yards, six touchdowns and six interceptions. A career journeyman, this will be McCown’s seventh NFL team.
It remains to be seen whether or not McCown will start for the Jets or serve as a mentor for the Jets’ young quarterbacks. In an ideal world, McCown will compete for the starting quarterback position against Bryce Petty and Christian Hackenberg.
