According to Ian Begley of ESPN, the New York Knicks plan to pursue point guard Jrue Holiday in free agency this summer.

The New York Knicks will be looking for a new point guard this summer. Derrick Rose will be a free agent and the only guards capable of playing the one who will be still on the roster will be Chasson Randle and Ron Baker, both of who are better fits at the two spot.

Phil Jackson knows he must find a primary ball handler this offseason, and he has a target in mind.

ESPN’s Ian Begley reports that the Knicks will court Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday, brother of Knicks guard Justin Holiday, to a lucrative deal this offseason.

Begley mentions that the Knicks did have an interest in acquiring Holiday when Jackson was initially named President of Basketball Operations for the Knicks.

Holiday’s injury history is a concern for the Knicks. Before this season, in his first three seasons in New Orleans, he missed almost 56 percent of the Pelican’s games, playing in only 139 games over three seasons.

After missing the first 12 games this season to care for his wife, Holiday has sat out three games and played extremely well. The former Sixer is averaging 15.9 PPG, 7.4 APG and 4.1 RPG for New Orleans this year.

With the Pelicans landing DeMarcus Cousins, already owning Anthony Davis, and being able to offer Holiday the most money, Holiday would be wise to stay in New Orleans. However, the Knicks are counting on the prospect of playing in New York City with his brother being enough to pry him away. Only time will tell if that can work.
