James Dolan slaps Charles Oakley in the face by sitting next to Latrell Sprewell

New York Knicks owner James Dolan decided to stick it to Charles Oakley even further by inviting and sitting next to Latrell Sprewell.

Is this guy kidding? After embarrassing himself through the Charles Oakley incident and on The Michael Kay Show, New York Knicks owner James Dolan has now complicated things even worse.

With his Knicks hosting the San Antonio Spurs for a Sunday matinee at Madison Square Garden, Dolan has decided to invite and sit next to Latrell Sprewell.

The Garden also played a tribute for the one-time Knick who helped the eighth-seeded 1999 version reach the NBA Finals:

Cool. Nice. It’s always a good thing to remember some of the fan favorites of yesteryear. Sprewell, though he left with a bad taste in his mouth — when he was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2003 — still remains a fan favorite thanks to the ’99 run.

But, come on … Dolan just made his own cause far worse.

Is James Dolan this stupid?

When comparing Oakley to Sprewell, it’s not even close. Oakley will be taken 99 out of 100 times over Sprewell in the eyes of all diehard Knicks fans. Therefore, doing the Sprewell thing on this day and for this game (a nationally televised event on ABC), is sheer stupidity.

The situation just provides Knicks fans to become more sour about their franchise and their fearless owner who still doesn’t know how to handle a PR crisis.

Sorry Spree, this has very little to do with you and everything to do with the stupidity of the man you’re sitting next to today. When Knick legacies are matched up, you can’t even touch the pinky finger of the man who was just banned from the Garden.

Listen, Dolan, just go into hiding and never come out. Nobody wants to see your mug courtside. Nobody wants to see the guy who’s owned this franchise for the last decade and a half-plus. It hurts us internally.

Free Oakley.
