Boston Celtics to place General Electric logo on jersey

General Electric has become a sponsor of the Boston Celtics and will have their logo on the Celtic’s jerseys next season.

The Boston Celtics announced on Wednesday that they have signed a sponsorship deal with General Electric.

The deal gives GE the right to have its logo on the Celtic’s jerseys and makes them exclusive data and analytics partner of the Celtics. Last year, the company moved its headquarters from Connecticut to Boston.

“We’ve got Auerbach, we’ve got Russell, we’ve got Bird, and now we’ve got Thomas Edison,” Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck told Adam Vaccaro of the Boston Globe. Terms of the GE deal weren’t disclosed but the deal is for three years.

Last April, the NBA approved a plan that allows sponsorships on uniforms, according to Tim Daniels of Bleacher Report. The Celtics are the third team that has a jersey sponsor.

Next season the Philadelphia 76ers, who were the first team to have a jersey sponsor, will have StubHub on their jersey and the Sacramento Kings will have the Blue Diamond logo on their jersey, according to Darren Rovell of ESPN. The 76ers and Kings deals are worth $5 million annually.

Teams are allowed to sell the logo spot to just one company for three years. They have the right to sell jerseys with the logos in their arena but jerseys that are sold nationally won’t have the logos.
