Just a little over ten hours after former head coach Jack Capuano was fired, the Islanders are already gauging the market for a replacement.

A new era

It has been a hectic day for New York Islanders fans everywhere.

Finally, after spending six seasons with the team and winning the first playoff series in 23 years, Jack Capuano was relieved of his head coaching duties.

What will come next for Islanders fans is a lot of patience, rumors, and anticipation.

Elliot Freidman reported that the Islanders were granted permission to speak with former Florida Panthers head coach and former Islanders assistant coach Gerard Gallant.

Fans who are still buzzing over the news of the dismissal of the Islanders bench boss do not have long to absorb the situation in full.

According to a press conference given by Garth Snow on why Capuano was fired, he said:

“At the end of the day, I don’t think that Jack was going to be a coach that we were going to bring back. To name Dougie Weight the interim head coach, we can start our coaching search now and not worry about the ramifications of that with Jack as the head coach,” via Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo Sports.

The likely scenario the Islanders are looking at is Doug Weight will man the reigns of bench boss until the end of the season.

An outside influence is likely to be the next step in repairing this broken Islander team.
