The New York Mets will send two prospects to the MLB All-Star Futures Game in first baseman Dominic Smith and second baseman Dilson Herrera.

The New York Mets will feature prospects Dominic Smith and Dilson Herrera in the July 10th MLB Futures All-Star game in San Diego.

Some Mets fans have clamored for a better first baseman than Lucas Duda; they may get a glimpse of the future in top prospect Dom Smith. The 21 year old is batting just .257 with 6 home runs in AA Binghamton, but has room to grow and is already regarded as an above average defender.

The 21 year old Herrera has already made a few cameos at the big league level over the past two years. He’s currently batting .278 with 11 homers in AAA Las Vegas, and is likely to take over second base next season if (when) Neil Walker departs in free agency.

The Mets have seen most of their highly touted pitching prospects graduate from the minor leagues, and are now getting a chance to see their better positional players. Outfielders Michael Conforto and Brandon Nimmo have recently appeared in the prospect showcase, and it’s now time for the infielders to get noticed.
