Six days ago, Aston Villa captain Fabian Delph committed his future to the club, proving that there is such a thing as loyalty in Football (amid reports that the midfielder was set to join Manchester City).

Today, he joined Manchester City, which prompted a hilarious reaction on social media.

Delph signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Villa in January, and said that he “Can’t wait for the start of the Premier League season.”

He was supposed to have a medical seven days ago after Manchester City agreed to meet an £8m release clause for the Midfielder. And when Delph didn’t join the Villa squad for their pre-season training camp in Portugal, rumors heated up that he was set to leave the club.

Despite the rumors, the Villa Captain was adamant that we wasn’t going anywhere and even released a public statement committing his future to the club in attempt to prove that loyalty still exists in Football.

The statement read: “I’m aware there has been intense media speculation surrounding my future in the last 24 hours and I want to set the record straight.”

“I’m not leaving. I’m staying at the football club and I can’t wait for the start of the season and captaining this great football club.”

Earlier on this morning, however, this photo was released online, showing a photo of a man that looked like Delph entering the same medical centre, where Raheem Sterling had his medical for Manchester City.

And whaddya know? It was Delph.

Not only is this a blow for Villa for losing their captain, but they are also still on the edge of losing Striker Christian Benteke, who is still coming to terms with Liverpool, who have recently triggered his £32.5 million release clause, and the player is set for a medical on Monday.

Losing both of these players would be a huge loss for Villa and the need for new players would be at an all time high, as the club still have pre-season friendlies to play. Manager Tim Sherwood, would most definitely want to get an idea of who will be in his final squad, for when the new Premier League season arrives.

Delph was a big part of Aston Villa’s squad in the 2014-15 Premier League Season, making 28 appearances for club. But they came close to losing their Premier League status as the club managed to avoid relegation by just 3 points. Talk about holding on by the skin of your teeth, eh?

So what happens now for Villa? Will they make any new signings before the Premier League season starts? Surely they have to. But one things for certain, Delph will get quite the reaction when he returns to Villa Park.
